Career: BakersBakering chefs make bread, pastries and other baked goods. Some will work in restaurants, bakeries or grocery stores. Bakers mix ingredients and place the dough into appropriate pans or cut the dough into shapes to bake. They peel fruits and make pies. They mix frostings and decorate cakes. Discipline: Baking and Pastry Arts Career: Chefs and CooksChefs and cooks make a wide variety of different foods following recipes. They use many different kinds of equipment from pots and pans to blenders and ovens. Chefs are also responsible for overseeing the other food production personnel and ordering ingredients. Discipline: Culinary Arts Career: Dietitians and NutritionistsDietitians plan nutrition programs, oversee food preparation, and supervise food service. They generally are employed in a school, hospital, nursing home or other health care facilities. Dietitians promote good nutrition and healthy eating by teaching a patient the correct foods to eat and prepare. Discipline: Hospitality, Tourism and Travel Management Career: Restaurant ManagersRestaurant managers plan and supervise the daily activities of any place that serve food or beverages. They plan menus and estimate the amount of ingredients and order food. Managers oversee the kitchen and dining room and resolve customer complaints. They insure that the restaurant is clean and is held up to health codes. Discipline: Food Service and Restaurant Management Career: Sales and MarketingFood sales and marketing careers need someone with good knowledge of the food industry and a flair for sales. You will be the one to introduce new products to restaurants and to stores and even directly to the consumer. Discipline: Culinary Management These careers in the culinary arts field are only a general list of the possibilities of what you can do with a culinary arts degree. Once you have explored your varied options in a culinary career, you will discover that the career fields are more specific.
